According to a Nigerian Tribune report, some heavily armed policemen have sealed Marhaba Cinema venue for the gubernatorial primary of Kano chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
All roads that lead to the venue situated within commercial area of Nasarawa GRA have equally been blocked by the security agents.
Combat ready personnel were seen in strategic positions within around the premises of a decades old cinema.
Similarly, the headquarters of Kwankwasiyya Movement which also housed the Constituency office of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano Central) located at Lugard road, a stone throw to Government house, Kano has been taken over by the police.
This is as opposition party in the state is ready to conduct primary election for no fewer than 4 gubernatorial aspirants jostling for the sole ticket of the party.
Daily Independent learnt that the police standoff with the PDP might not be unconnected with a subsisting court order that recognises Mas’ud El Doguwa leadership over the Caretaker Committee by the national leadership of the party.
A personal assistant to Abba Kabiru Yusuf, Rabiu Kwankwaso anointed candidate for the primary election, Comrade Aminu Wali said that they were at loss over the police action.
Wali who spoke with Daily Independent on phone accused the state government of meddlesomeness in the internal affairs of the opposition party.
He lamented that “it’s unfortunate that the police who ordinarily should serve as guardian of democracy have capitulated in the face of brazen assault”
The Kano police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majia, could not be reached for comment as at the time of this report.
