The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State on Wednesday commenced the distribution of sensitive materials at the Ibadan branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, led the staff of the commission in sorting and documentation of the election materials for each of the 33 local government areas.
Agboke told newsmen at the venue of the exercise that the sorting and documentation were painstakingly carrying out to avoid any mix-up.
He said movement of the materials to the respective local government INEC offices would commence after verification of the materials assigned to each local government.
”The exercise will be on till Thursday and each of the vehicles with the materials will leave CBN to INEC state headquarters to collect Smart Card Readers (SCRs) before proceeding to their respective destinations.
”Each of the vehicles carrying the materials will be escorted by armed security personnel to ensure the safety of the materials, ” he said.
Agboke also said that the materials available for Saturday’s polls were adequate, assuring the electorate that the commission was ready to conduct a transparent and credible electoral exercise.
He urged all eligible voters to come out on Saturday to exercise their franchise. ”Votes of the electorate will count and determine winners of the elections, ”he said.
The distribution of the materials was witnessed by agents of the participating political parties in the state.
