It is no longer news that Ekiti State has embarked on a review of most of its law to align with modern day realities, to enable the state compete favourable in the committees of States.
Today the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Ministry of Justice with FIDA Ekiti and Balm in Gilead Foundation (BIGIF) held a stakeholders meeting with Members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs to discuss the BILL FOR THE AMENDMENT OF THE GENDER BASED VIOLENCE(PROHIBITION), LAW 2011.
This meeting was crucial to this stakeholders as new innovative measures to combat incidents of GBV in our dear state has been included in the bill which is expected to be presented to the State House of Assembly soon along with other bills.


Ekiti State is in the forefront in the battle against Rape, Domestic Violence, Economic Violence (we are also Empowering our women), Teenage pregnancy (we are working to Keep Our Girls School). Female Genital Mutilation, Child Molestation and Child Abandonment.
These vices and many more are the results of obnoxious practices and believes which we still hold dear despites its negative effects on us.


We are taking it one step at a time while we upgrade our laws we are also empowering the women with enough education to help them leave a better life.
Ours laws more than ever before is now more gender sensitive because as a people we are not ignorant of the fact that men are also abused, rape and without empowerment.
We are creating a Sexual Referral Centre in our state and its in the bill. This is necessary so that we can focus on the victims welfare while prosecuting offenders.


This development is a commendable one. FIDA Ekiti took up the challenge to put the bill in place. We are on the right course.
