Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Fasina
The Itaji-Ekiti community in Oye Council area of Ekiti State has donated five hectares of land to the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, for the take-off of the sandwich programmes and agriculture factory being proposed by the institution’s Faculty of Education.
This was as the university emerged overall best in the recently concluded Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology academic contest held in Abuja for engineering departments across Nigerian universities.
The university said this in a Press release titled, ‘FUOYE shines again, tops CODET competition in Abuja,’ made available in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday by the Vice Chancellor’s Chief Information Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede; and special Adviser of Media matters, Wole Balogun.
They stated that apart from donating the land to the university, the Itaji Ekiti community, under the aegis of Itaji Progressives Union led by Dr Adebayo Olajide, had promised to partner with FUOYE in developing the landed property to enable the summer degree programmes for career teachers take off soon.
The gesture followed recent meeting of FUOYE management team led by the VC, Prof. Abayomi Fasina with the Onitaji of Itaji-Ekiti, Oba Adamo Babalola, his chiefs and IPU.
Ogunmodede and Balogun said, “The implication of the 2021 competition win which saw institution retain the topmost position in CODET after clinching the golden trophy in the 2018 edition, is that FUOYE has the best Mechatronics Department in the country and equally offers the best training in Engineering courses”.
They stated that FUOYE’s Directorate of Pre-Degree programmes and associate professor in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Dr Adefemi Adekunle, who represented the VC to receive the honour in Abuja, congratulated the university for the feat.
Adekunle had stated, “The delegates, led by Prof. Alabadan and Dr Daniel Josiah Àti of Mechatronics Department and his team made it again for FUOYE. We came first at the CODET contest in at Abuja and FUOYE was decorated on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, for coming tops in Single Categories and emerging second best in the Group Categories”.
The don, who recalled the 2018 feat, said, “FUOYE team topped all the Engineering competitors in Nigerian universities by coming first in group competition with Robotic Surveillance car with night vision camera that can be viewed from home, which can be controlled remotely at a100m distance”.
