The Ekiti State Government has initiated a comprehensive fumigation campaign in Iro-Ekiti, Iro, Ayeteju-Ekiti, and Ipoti-Ekiti.
following the sudden emergence of swarms of Oxidus Gracilis Millipedes and other crawling creatures
in parts of the communities
Governor Abiodun Oyebanji approved the immediate fumigation of the communities in response to an urgent environmental health concern raised by the Oniro of Iro Ekiti, Oba Felix Adeniyi Adeyiba, and the President of the Ipoti Development Association (IDA), Prof. Oladipo Afolayan requesting immediate intervention from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
A team of Environmental Health Officers, led by the Deputy Director of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department in the Ministry of Environment, Sanitarian Ayodele Aluko was swiftly deployed to conduct the fumigation operation in the three affected communities.
The fumigation focused on important public places and areas where the infestation was severe, including schools, market areas, drainages, roundabouts, palaces and dump sites as well as boundaries with neighbouring communities
In Ipoti-Ekiti, specific locations such as the Sabo Market area, Owatedo Hall, Ile Ajolu area, Ile Aiye Street, Odo Owa Road, and Odofin Owa Street were given priority.
The Chairman of Irede LCDA, Hon. Ayodele Awe, along with traditional leaders and residents, expressed their gratitude to Governor Oyebanji and Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, for their quick response, which has protected the towns from potential health risks.

stressing that fumigation effort has provided significant relief to the affected communities.
